Yes, the manual is good but what I was missing was the guide right above the needle, not just a hook, you need to pull left to get into the channel. Youtube Vince Arcuri has numerous videos about this machine, addresses many functions in detail, and simplifies what seems complicated.
I am new to embroidery and have found this machine very easy to use and SO much fun! I was intimidated at first. When it arrived, I let it sit in the box for a few days. Then recycling day arrived so I opened the box and set up the machine, which took five minutes. I stared at it a few more days and finally decided to bite the bullet and was joyously surprised at how very easy it is to use. Even a total novice like me could use it pretty much immediately. Now I’m excited about what is to come and learn more. I make memory bears for hospice families and it is so nice to be able to embroider the deceased person’s name on the bear and add a symbol of something meaningful to them. So much more personal and so much fun. I wish I’d bought this sooner.
